Policies
Shipping:
We ship in stock items as soon as we can process them, usually between 1-3 business days from receiving the order. Canada Post will then take about 5 business days to get to you, depending on where in Canada you live. Expedited shipping is available, please note in your comments and we will send you the shipping quote.
If there are any items that are not currently in our inventory, we will send you all in stock items and ship the rest to you free of charge when they arrive. We do not list items that are completely out of stock, only ones that are in our inventory or have been ordered. From time to time we run low, but have shipments coming in bi- weekly from various manufacturers.
Shipping is free for products totaling more than $100. If you are in the Greater Vancouver area and prefer to pick up your order, please leave that in the comments section and we will refund the shipping amount.
Returns:
Unwashed and unused items can be returned within 14 days. Shipping cannot be refunded, and the buyer is responsible for the cost of shipping the items back to Baby Footprint. If returned items subtract your total to less than $100, there will be a re-stocking fee to cover the shipping ($12). Any washed or worn merchandise cannot be returned or exchanged unless grossly misrepresented.
If you believe your item to be defective, please contact us. Most manufacturers provide a limited 1 year warranty on elastics, snaps and PUL. We will advise you as to your next steps. Some manufacturers prefer to troubleshoot or deal with customer defects directly, others prefer that we simply replace the product and they credit us the wholesale cost. If you are having leak issues, don't give up! Give us a call or email us and we we will promptly respond with some practical solutions. It can be anything to your detergent, to how you are putting them on, to needing more or less inserts.
Best Price Guarantee:
Our goal is to be your preferred source for cloth diapers in Canada and we know we aren't the only game in town so feel free to shop around, but we do try to use the absolute minimum retail prices mandated by our manufacturers.
If you find a lower advertised price on an identical in-stock item at an established Canadian retailer, we will match the competitor's price. The Price Match Guarantee applies to all new, factory sealed products. Merchandise must be the same brand, year, fabric and colour. Items must be in stock and available for purchase at that price from an authorized reseller.
Closeout, clearance, discontinued, liquidation, reconditioned or refurbished, pre-owned and damaged items are excluded from this offer.
In Stock Items:
We try to keep all items in stock or indicate whether they are temporarily out of stock. With a baby myself it is difficult to keep the website inventory in real time so I do apologize if something you order is still on its way from the manufacturer. I will promptly advise you what we have and offer you the opportunity to switch a colour, take a refund, or wait for the item. If you catch me on a really bad day (i.e. multiple items are out of stock on your over $100 purchase), I'll likely give you 5% off or store credit.
If you do need to wait for an item or two, I will ship the in stock items to you right away and then ship the rest separately - on me*** on orders $100+).
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why does the shopping cart look like Pay Pal?
A. Because it is! I have a passion for helping moms navigate the cloth diapering world and showing them how easy, economical and wonderful it is for our planet-- NOT storing your personal information. Paypal manages the shopping cart so I can keep costs low (not have to use an expensive hosting service), provides buyer and seller confidence in the transaction (they have a resolution process and provides buyer and seller insurance) and ensures your personal information stays personal (I don't see any of your credit card or banking info). Its also flexible so you can use your paypal account, direct banking info and accepts all major credit cards.
Q. How many diapers should I start with?
A. Start with 12- 16 to get you through a full day and a half. In the beginning I washed diapers every day since I wanted to try a bit of everything in the newborn size before making the investment for the next sizes. Once I figured out what I liked, (a combo of fitted with covers and pocket/ AIO for me) I keep about 20 - 24 in my rotation. I do laundry every other day. Some sites will recommend more, and if you only want to do laundry ever 3 -4 days than yeah, grab a few more to get you through.
Q. What do you recommend for new cloth diaper moms?
A. Check out my blog "what kind of clothy are you?" I talk to passionate prefolding mamas, and One Size lovers often, I prefer the sized fitted with covers (love Thirsties, the bamboozle, and Sandy's, although the Happy Hempys are also great), and I like pockets for when we are on the go (Happy Heiny, Bum Genius & Fuzzi Bunz). I know it sounds like I recommend everything-- and I do, I don't stock diapers that I don't believe in. Soooo.... what about you, well read the blog for the more extensive description of each kind, and decide how much money you want to spend, how important trim fit is, how much ease of use matters (i.e. will your husband be intimidated to use the system), and if the cute factor is important to you. You can always give me a call or email me with what is important to you and I can help you wade through your options!
Q. Seriously, is cloth diapering a bit gross? Will it yuck up my washing machine?
A. Really-- it isn't! In the beginning I actually started a cloth diaper laundry service (www.babyfootprint.ca) because I thought if people were like me they would want to do cloth diapers because they didn't want to do serious harm to the environment and because of all the chemicals that cause diaper rash, problems for baby's sensitive bums. But really I find the grossest part is changing the poopy diaper, wiping baby's bum, NOT the laundry. Don't put off cloth diapering in the beginning because its truly the easiest time to do it when they are breastfed only-- no shaking, scraping, just throw everything into the washing machine with a hot wash and 1/2 the regular good soap (I love Rockin Green), and they come out clean, I have no stains! If its a particularly poopy kind of wash, I do a quick cold rinse first. When they are on solids, using a biodegradable/ flushable liner makes it super easy. And no, my 11 year old washing machine is not yucked up in any way for our regular laundry! Diaper Sprayers are awesome for the baby on solids, and greatly reduce your "interaction" with poop.
Q. Do you charge HST?
A. Cloth diapers are HST exempt (yaay!) so you will only see a 5% GST tax. Accessories like the laundry soap, wetbags and breastfeeding stuff are not exempt, so 12% will be the tax rate on any non- diaper item.
