Why rent or invest in cloth diapers that can only be used for 3 months or until baby is 12lbs?

I am glad you asked! I wrote a lengthy (but informative) blog post on this very subject. It should tell you why having enough diapers, good fitting diapers are critical to your overall cloth diapering success during the hard to fit, albeit brief, newborn stage. Its a bit of personal experience mixed into why I started Baby Footprint in the first place... all leading up to the creation of this Rental Program. I am a strong believer of investing over renting newborn cloth diapers if you are on your first of multiple children, that way you will still save money while saving the environment and your baby's bum from icky diaper rash!

Here is how the Cloth Diaper Rental Program works:

Determine if you are eligible to participate in the program. We may work out the logistics of shipping this package out and arranging for return shipping at some point, but to start you must be in the GVRD or be willing to pick up the diapers within the GVRD.  Only smoke-free homes are eligible. You must have in suite laundry, and a washing machine with the ability for a hot wash. Water must be hot enough, however a sanitize cycle is too hot. More instructions will be provided in the kit.

Pick your date from the drop down list. You will notice that there are limited start dates so you will need to pick one as close to your due date as possible. Ideally you will start using the cloth diapers after the meconium has worked its way out and the umbilical stump has healed. There are some diapers in the kit that will fit under the belly button so use your judgment as to when you and baby are ready.

Pay the rental cost + deposit fee. The deposit is an additional $275 that will be returned to you when you return the kit in excellent condition. We know there will be wear and tear, and things happen so we are generally pretty understanding. We will take the time to go over the wash routine with you, how to care for the diapers so you should have no problems.

Use the diapers. Use the diapers, store them in the hanging pail, launder the bag and the diapers every 2 days or when you are down to your last 3. Follow included washing instructions.

Return the diapers. Your deposit will be refunded when the diapers are received in excellent, gently used condition. You must return them on the exact date end date as there is little time left between each program end/ start date for us to inspect, do our de-funkifying/ soak and replace any pieces that need to retire from the kit.

Optional, but likely- Buy your favourites: Baby will likely be at the top range of the newborn sizes and ready for the next size up or one size versions of the diapers you tried. Determine your favourites—you might be surprised at what you liked best after trying the variety.
